What are giclée prints?
The term “giclée” (pronounced “zhee-klay”) refers to a fine art printing process that uses a high-resolution inkjet printer with archival inks on high-quality media. This method is the gold standard for art reproduction, distinguishing it from standard digital printing.
Our giclées are different from standard prints due to three key factors:
- High-quality digital capture: A high-resolution image of the original art is used to ensure all details and color nuances are perfectly preserved.
- Archival materials: We print on museum-grade, acid-free papers and canvases, which prevent yellowing and preserve the artwork for generations.
- Specialized inks: Archival-grade, inks ensure remarkable color accuracy and longevity.
The HP Latex advantage for fine art
The HP Latex is not a traditional pigment-based fine art printer but offers unique benefits that make it an excellent choice for producing high-quality art prints.
Unmatched durability and longevity
Our HP Latex water-based inks offer impressive durability that rivals traditional fine art inks. HP’s own testing indicates that prints displayed indoors away from direct sunlight can last for 60 to 200 years without lamination, depending on the specific substrate used.
- Scratch resistance: Latex inks produce prints that are highly scratch-resistant and durable, without the need for an additional laminate layer.
- Fade resistance: HP Latex prints exhibit excellent fade resistance when displayed indoors, protecting your artwork for generations.
Vibrant, consistent color
The HP Latex provides exceptional color reproduction with a wide color gamut, ensuring your prints are faithful to the original art.
- Six-color printing: Our printer uses six ink colors, producing a wider range of hues and smoother gradients than standard four-color printers.
- Instant dry technology: Latex prints come out of the printer completely dry, allowing immediate handling and preventing smudges or moisture damage.
Eco-friendly production
We use HP’s water-based Latex inks, which are a healthier and more sustainable option compared to traditional solvent inks.
- Odorless and non-hazardous: Latex inks are free of the harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in solvent inks, making them safe for indoor displays in any environment, from a home to a gallery.
- UL ECOLOGO certified: The inks meet rigorous environmental and human health standards, so you can feel good about your purchase.
